![]() ![]() Not only will you make tons of money, but trading is also a really good way to spread your religion (and get a little science bonus too). If you have twelve available, build twelve. If you have four trade routes available, you should build four caravans or cargo ships. You definitely shouldn’t ignore the new trade route system in Brave New World. You might get a boost or two if you choose a policy from each choice, but the really good bonuses only come from fully unlocking a Social Policy Branch. When you start with one tree, you unlock everything it has to offer before moving on to another. When it comes to social politics, it can be tempting to choose from everything there is. Whoever can travel across the seas first and thus potentially find entire new and uninhabited continents (or at least strategically advantageous islands) that make it incredibly easy to suddenly double or triple the size of their empire has a huge advantage over all those civilizations who are stuck in the old country/continent. It’s hard to pinpoint a dominant research path, as it depends on your playstyle, but since I believe in the importance of expansion, as I mentioned above, I came to the conclusion that it is beneficial to your long-term success, if you are the first to receive/reach navigation. If another religion manages to gain a foothold in your civilization before you have the opportunity to create your own, you will be at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. Once you’re done with your expansion work, you should focus on building shrines and temples so you can start a religion and start spreading it. Religion may seem like useless filler, but it can be a powerful diplomatic and cultural weapon – and a good source of happiness for your own people. While it may be tempting to focus entirely on gold and production, especially for veterans of the series, I’ve noticed that you have to worry about happiness first, as it’s particularly difficult here in the positive area to stay (trade routes make it relatively easy to increase income). At first less will be produced and your income will decrease, but if you let things get out of control rebels will emerge and destroy your cities and empire. In previous games it wasn’t a big problem if the citizens were dissatisfied, but in… Civ V it can cripple your empire and destroy your ambitions. This last part about happiness is worth its own little section, you need to make sure your civilization is always happy. Keep expanding until you start losing money and/or creating unhappiness. If you are introducing/choosing Social Politics, you should start with Tradition as it offers expansion bonuses. That’s why you should build settlers very early on (and the occasional worker to create roads that connect your cities). The more cities you have, the more gold and research you will generate, and the larger your territory, the more likely you are to have necessary strategic resources. The most valuable thing on one Civilization Map is real estate. The very first thing you should do is expand your empire. Start simple and work your way up slowly This game offers enough changes of basic Civ Formula, so even veterans have to slow down a bit while they get used to the new features. The same applies to the level of difficulty. The advantage of these modest sizes is that not only do you not have to grind too much to expand and build, but these small maps also make for more interesting games, especially if you squeeze in 6-8 civilizations. It may be tempting to start your first games on a large map, but you would be wise to start on “small” or even “tiny” ones. However, tips are offered that are useful for this entire Game valid, not just the latest expansion. Think of what I’m offering you here as a kind of “Golden Rules” to help you get started in the right direction. This is not a complete and comprehensive guide to the entire game There is neither enough time nor space for this. Notice: This guide was originally published in 2013, but has now been expanded to include additional tips that take advances in tactics and mods into account. To help all newcomers, but also all those who are upgrading with expansions, a little, I have put together this guide that offers some of the best tips to put creeps like Gandhi in their place. I’ll even go so far as to say here and now that *coughs* it’s the best Civilization Game of all is. ![]() Civilization V has become one of the very best games on PC through several major expansions.
